On Thursday, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) informed the Supreme Court that the national elections are slated to be held on February 11, 2024.
This update was shared during a hearing involving various pleas advocating for timely elections. Both the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have approached the apex court to address concerns about potential election delays.
Sajeel Swati, the counsel representing the ECP, stated during the hearing that the general election would occur on February 11, 2024, following the completion of the delimitation process, expected to conclude by November 30.
Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa inquired about President Arif Alvi’s agreement with this decision. Justice Athar Minallah, another member of the three-member bench, mentioned the constitutional authority vested in the president to determine the election date.
Following these discussions, CJP Isa instructed the Election Commission to engage in consultations with the president regarding this matter.
