Chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, has indicated that Eidul Fitr 2024 is expected to occur on Wednesday, April 10 in Pakistan, as reported by ARY News. According to Maulana Azad, scientific observations suggest that the Shawwal crescent moon will likely be sighted on the 29th day of Ramadan this year.

He also mentioned the committee’s openness to utilizing scientific findings in moon sighting processes, emphasizing the importance of adhering to Islamic principles and testimonies in making the final decision regarding the Eidul Fitr moon sighting.

Notably, in 2024, Pakistanis will observe a 29-day Ramadan, leading to the potential celebration of Eidul Fitr on April 10 if the crescent moon is sighted on April 9. The commencement of Ramadan occurred on March 12 this year, following the sighting of the Ramadan moon a day earlier in Pakistan. The announcement regarding the beginning of Ramadan was made subsequent to a meeting of the central and zonal Ruet-e-Hilal committees convened to sight the crescent of the Islamic month in Peshawar.

Furthermore, several countries across the Middle East, Europe, and other regions also marked March 12 as the first day of Ramadan. Countries such as Australia, Malaysia, Philippines, Brunei, and Oman commenced the holy month on March 12 due to the absence of crescent moon sighting on the preceding Sunday evening.

Ramadan-ul-Mubarak, known as the month of fasting, holds significance as the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar. During Ramadan, Muslims observe fasting, abstaining from eating, drinking, gossiping, and cursing from dawn until sunset. Moreover, they engage in meditative practices such as prayers, Quran recitation, and charitable acts.

In addition, the government has announced the Nisab-i-Zakat at Rs. 135,179 for Zakat Year 1444-45 A.H., indicating the minimum amount held in bank accounts eligible for Zakat deduction on the eve of the first Ramadan.
