On Tuesday, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) decided that Imran Khan, the leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), cannot hold a public office for five years. This decision was made based on a trial court’s ruling in the Toshakahana case, which found him guilty of corrupt practices.
The electoral authority explained that this disqualification is due to violations of the Elections Act, 2017, and he has been sentenced to three years.
Because of this, Imran Ahmed Khan Niazi is no longer eligible to hold public office under Article 63(1)(h) of the Pakistani Constitution, along with Section 232 of the Elections Act, 2017. The ECP has also officially removed Khan as the “returned candidate” from the NA-45 Kurram-l costituency.
