Emirates, the world’s biggest long-haul Airline, is looking to purchase more wide-body aircraft to update and expand its fleet. The Dubai based Airline is considering Airbus A350s, Boeing 777-9s, and possibly smaller Boeing 787 Dreamliners, as stated by its president, Tim Clark.
Emirates currently operates 260 Aircraft and has existing orders for 50 Airbus A350s, 117 Boeing 777Xs, and 30 Boeing 787-9s. However, Clark did not disclose the size or timeline of the new aircraft order. Moreover, Emirates is currently undertaking a $2 billion program to retrofit over 100 of its Airbus A380 jets and Boeing 777s. This is in preparation for the delivery of A350s in 2024 and the delayed 777Xs. The phased retirement of A380s is expected between 2032 and 2033.
Furthermore, Emirates has faced delays in the delivery of its Boeing 777X, with entry into service now scheduled for Q4 2025. However, the Airline reported a record annual profit of Dh10.6 billion ($2.9 billion) for the fiscal year ending in March 2023, attributed to strong travel demand.
Moreover, Emirates is considering moving its operations to Al Maktoum International Airport. Discussions are ongoing to determine the expansion timeline, which would require the construction of a new terminal at DWC.
Dubai International Airport is operating at 80% capacity. It is exploring biometric technology to enhance passenger flow and increase capacity. Trials for a new scanning machine that streamlines security checks are currently underway.
