Emirates, the world’s largest Airline, is set to invest a substantial $950 million in constructing an engineering facility at Dubai World Central (DWC). This massive complex, spanning 1 million square meters, is poised to become the largest and most advanced globally, significantly enhancing Dubai’s aviation infrastructure.
The project, designed to meet the Airline’s operational needs until the 2040s, will also function as a central hub for aviation engineering services in the Middle East. The commencement of phase 1 construction is scheduled for 2024.
Expressing confidence in the venture, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Emirates Airline, and Group’s Chairman and CEO, stated, “This investment signals confidence in Emirates and the aviation sector.” He emphasized that the facility would render Emirates entirely self-sufficient for maintenance and engineering needs.
Beyond self-sufficiency, the facility aims to provide operational stability, flexibility, and quality assurance. With the projected growth of the region’s aviation sector, the complex is expected to play a pivotal role, attracting global players and creating a significant number of technical jobs, thereby contributing to Dubai’s economy.
Capable of handling various aircraft engineering services, the facility will cover routine checks, paint jobs, maintenance, engine repair, cabin fit-outs, and conversions.
The construction timeline for phase 1 is from 2024 to 2027, with provisions made for future expansion in alignment with Emirates’ evolving fleet and operational requirements. Ali Mubarak Al Soori, Emirates Group Executive Vice President, highlighted the project’s commitment to sustainability, incorporating green materials, solar panels, and recycling systems.
ADP Ingénierie has been appointed as the project consultant for this ambitious venture. While the existing Emirates Engineering Centre at Dubai International (DXB) will continue supporting ongoing operations, the new DWC complex will initially handle overflow work and extended maintenance programs.
