In a joint announcement, the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) and FIFA revealed that Jeddah has been selected as the host city for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup 2023. The decision comes after a recent visit by a FIFA delegation to assess the preparations for the tournament, which is scheduled to take place from December 12 to 22 this year. This will be the first time that the FIFA Club World Cup is held in Saudi Arabia.
Yasser Al Misehal, the president of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation, expressed great pleasure at Jeddah being chosen as the host city. He highlighted the city’s modern facilities and its successful track record in hosting major international sporting events. Al Misehal emphasized the important role of sports in Saudi Arabia’s ongoing transformation under Vision 2030, which aims to establish the country as a prominent destination for global sports.
During the visit of the FIFA delegation, thorough inspections were conducted at key infrastructure sites, including the King Abdullah Sport City Stadium and the Prince Abdullah Al Faisal Stadium, as well as proposed training and accommodation facilities.
Jeddah has a rich history of hosting significant international sports events, including the Spanish and Italian Super Cups, the F1 stc Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, world heavyweight championship boxing, the Asian Club League Handball Championship, the IHF Men’s Super Globe, the IWF Youth World Championships, and the FIBA 3×3 World Tour Final.
