The New Gwadar International Airport officially started operations on January 20, 2025, with the arrival of PIA flight PK-503 from Karachi. The flight, carrying 46 passengers, was the first commercial aircraft to land at the modern facility.
This historic moment was attended by Defence Minister Khawaja Asif and Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti. Both leaders emphasized the importance of the airport in promoting economic growth, encouraging regional tourism, and strengthening Pakistan’s international connectivity.
The airport, built at a cost of $230 million, has been designed to handle up to 400,000 passengers per year. This makes it a significant addition to Pakistan’s infrastructure, especially for boosting trade and tourism in the region.
