Asif Ali Zardari, the former president and co-chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), has stressed the urgent need for collective thinking and the development of a long-term economic plan to address the severe economic crisis in Pakistan. During a meeting with business representatives at the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) in Lahore, Zardari expressed his support for the idea of creating a “charter of economy” that goes beyond the usual short-term approaches of 5 or 10 years.
He assured the attendees that he and his party would support them if they collaborated on this initiative.Zardari called for the participants to think about the future and contribute their ideas and energy towards formulating a 50-year plan for Pakistan, as lawmakers often struggle to think beyond 5 or 10 years.
He believed that economic planning should prioritize the well-being of future generations rather than relying on bailouts. Zardari emphasized the potential for Pakistan’s growth and the importance of building a stronger economy for the benefit of future generations.Zardari proposed that the government should focus on making people wealthy before imposing taxes.
He reiterated the PPP’s commitment to the business secor, stating that while governments may change, leaving a lasting legacy as a leader is what truly matters. Zardari highlighted the historical significance of the PPP and its unique act of willingly relinquishing power without any specific reason.
