A Qatar Airways flight traveling from Doha to Manila had to make an emergency landing at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport. The reason for the emergency landing was that a pregnant passenger gave birth to a baby boy while the flight was in the air. The birth occurred a few hours after the flight departed from Manila and before the pilot could safely land in Karachi.
The pilot of the flight contacted the Air Traffic Controller in Karachi and requested permission to make an emergency landing at the airport. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) confirmed the incident and stated that both the mother and the newborn baby were taken to a hospital for medical assistance.
This is not the first time that an emergency landing has occurred at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi. Earlier this month, another international flight had to make an emergency landing due to a passenger’s deteriorating health.
The flight was en route from Muscat to Bangladesh when the condition of a Bangladeshi passenger worsened. The pilot contacted the Air Traffic Controller in Karachi, received clearance, and successfully landed the flight. Unfortunately, the ill passenger did not survive.
These incidents highlight the importance of prompt and appropriate actions taken by airlines and airports to handle medical emergencies that occur during flights.
