The Punjab government has launched a free solar panel scheme aimed at providing relief to electricity consumers struggling with rising power costs. - Helpline Support: Applicants can call the dedicated helpline and provide their CNIC or reference number to receive an update on their application.
- SMS Notifications: Individuals who applied via SMS will receive regular status updates on their registered mobile numbers. It is advised to keep the confirmation message for reference.
Scheme Details and Impact
Under this initiative, 100,000 solar panel systems will be distributed in Punjab in 2025. The scheme offers:
- 550-watt solar systems to consumers using up to 100 units of electricity monthly.
- 1100-watt solar systems to consumers using up to 200 units monthly.
The project is expected to significantly reduce electricity costs for eligible consumers while promoting environmental sustainability. According to official estimates, the reduction in carbon emissions through this initiative is expected to be around 57,000 tons annually.

To ensure fairness in the selection process, the Punjab government has introduced a computerized balloting system to choose beneficiaries. Each applicant’s reference number and CNIC-linked electricity bill will be verified before the final allocation of the solar panels.
Additionally, the government has implemented security measures to prevent theft or misuse of the solar panels. The solar systems and inverters will be linked to the beneficiaries’ CNICs, ensuring that only the rightful owners can use them.
