Each year, thousands of young professionals’ step into the workforce armed with degrees, skills, and relentless hope, ready to carve out a future. For many, their hopes are dashed due to scarce and underpaid opportunities in Pakistan.
It’s heartbreaking to see talented and hardworking individuals settling for wages that barely cover transportation or utilities. For the youth of Pakistan, this represents a crushing weight on their aspirations.
In this bleak landscape, where inflation is soaring, the economy is struggling, and salaries remain stagnant, the IT and BPO sectors emerge as the lifelines. By securing global contracts and bringing in substantial foreign revenue, these industries have become integral part of the nation’s economy. Offering competitive wages, these industries provide thousands of young people with a way to break free from the shackles of low-paying, dead-end jobs and improve their standard of living.
The problem however is that even this lifeline is under threat.
A wave of imposter fraud is tearing through the trust that these industries have painstakingly built. Fraudulent actors, posing as legitimate businesses, target vulnerable populations in the US and Europe, tricking them into giving away their personal and financial information. The fallout from these scams extends far beyond the immediate victims.
When trust erodes, clients turn away, taking with them the millions of dollars that could have sustained livelihoods and improve the standard of living for our youth. For young professionals already battling the grim reality of a struggling economy, the loss of opportunities in these sectors feels like a doomsday decision, either choose leaving the country or being left behind.
The fight against imposter fraud is not just a battle to protect an industry. It’s a fight to protect the dreams of our youth. The government is taking strict measures to eliminate fraud, but we also need to stand with them as responsible citizens by staying vigilant and immediately report any suspicious activity to the FIA.
