The federal government has officially upgraded Gwadar Airport, making it an international airport capable of handling both international passenger and cargo flights. This is a major step forward for Pakistan and a significant achievement under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
The airport is expected to greatly enhance connectivity and trade opportunities for the region. Located 14 kilometers north of Gwadar city in Balochistan, it will now support both domestic and international operations. This development is seen as a crucial move to position Gwadar as a central hub for trade and commerce in South Asia.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described the airport as a “gift” from China, underscoring its role in the billion-dollar infrastructure projects under CPEC. The inauguration of the airport was a notable event, with Chinese Premier Li Qiang joining the ceremony virtually during his visit to Pakistan in October.
This international airport is anticipated to play a key role in fostering economic growth, boosting regional connectivity, and strengthening trade ties between Pakistan and other countries. It also reflects the growing partnership between Pakistan and China, with Gwadar becoming a symbol of progress and collaboration under the CPEC initiative.
