Heavy rainfall has hit parts of southwestern Balochistan, causing flooding in Gwadar and nearby areas. The rain lasted for more than 10 hours and flooded streets and buildings because there is no proper drainage system. Many people had to leave their homes and find safer places to stay. Some houses and buildings collapsed, and there were power and internet outages.
Pakistan is facing more extreme weather due to climate change. This means there are heavier rainfalls and irregular weather patterns. Gwadar received 125mm of rain in the past 24 hours, and more rain is expected. The Meteorological Office predicts more rain and thunderstorms in Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and parts of Punjab, Islamabad, and Sindh in the coming days.
There is concern that the situation may worsen as a strong weather system is expected to hit western Pakistan on February 29th, bringing heavy rain, thunderstorms, and snowfall. This weather is likely to affect various parts of the country until Sunday.
