The Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KW&SB) has introduced new measures to improve water access for residents amid ongoing repair work on the city’s pipelines.
Citizens can now easily book subsidized water tankers, thanks to the recently launched 24/7 window service at official hydrants across Karachi.
To ensure uninterrupted water supply, KW&SB CEO Engineer Syed Salahuddin Ahmed announced an increase in the number of tankers allocated for public use. Additionally, commercial tanker operations have been temporarily halted for three days, prioritizing residential areas, including apartment complexes.
The new system requires citizens to obtain computerized e-slips when booking tankers to promote transparency.
Any failure to issue these slips should be immediately reported to KW&SB. For added convenience, contact numbers for all official hydrants have been made available, allowing Karachiites to book water tankers without hassle.
These steps come as the city faces severe water shortages due to damage to an 84-inch pipeline. The pipeline, which initially burst on December 3 during construction of the Red Line project, was repaired but started leaking again just days later. This disruption has left many neighborhoods struggling to meet their water needs, as over 2.5 billion gallons of water supply were lost.
By suspending commercial tanker services and prioritizing the General Public Service, KW&SB aims to ensure fair distribution and ease of access for residents during this challenging time. Karachiites are encouraged to take advantage of the improved booking system to meet their water requirements efficiently.
