In cricket, the minimum requirement to consider a game valid is the completion of at least 20 overs. This stipulation ensures that both teams have a fair opportunity to bat and bowl, promoting balanced competition.
Currently, the target set by the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method for Pakistan is 20 overs with 2 wickets down stands at 140 runs. This means that if a match is reduced to 20 overs due to weather interruptions, the team chasing must accumulate 140 runs while losing no more than 2 wickets to win according to DLS calculations.
However, the dynamics of the target can change significantly if the overs are further reduced. For instance, if 30 overs are deducted from the originally scheduled number, and the chasing team is now left with just 20 overs to bat, the DLS target will be adjusted upwards to 200 runs.
This means the team must score 200 runs while keeping the loss of wickets to a minimum to secure victory. Additionally, if the match is reduced to just 9 overs, the target would further increase to 356 runs.
Crucially, it’s worth noting that to validate the result of a match, a minimum of 20 overs must be bowled. If Pakistan fails to face these 20 overs due to rain interruptions, the match will ends up in a ‘no result.’
