India defeat Australia by five wickets, top the International Cricket Council (ICC) One Day International (ODIs) rankings with 116 ratings. With their exceptional performance, they managed to overthrow Pakistan and claim the top spot.
However, Pakistan ranked second with 115 ratings, they are followed closely by Pakistan.
By the outstanding performance of their batters, four different players Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, KL Rahul, and Suryakumar Yadav, they contributed to dethroning Pakistan from the top spot.
India will play two more ODIs against Australia, before the much-anticipated ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 starts.
If Australia beat India in the remaining two matches, Pakistan can once again go to the top in the rankings.
If Australia perform well and and beat India, the Green Shirts have a chance to regain the number one spot in ODIs.
It must be noted that in August, Pakistan became the number one team in ODIs after beating Afghanistan in a three-match ODI series in Sri Lanka.
However, the Green Shirts’ disappointing performance in the Asia Cup 2023 resulted in their downgrade to the number three position.
Pakistan again became the top-ranked team in the ICC rankings, when South Africa won the five-match ODI series against Australia at their home.
The Men in Green will kick off their World Cup campaign on October 6 by taking on the Netherlands in Hyderabad.
