In an effort to alleviate the burden of electricity costs, the Punjab government has introduced a free solar system program for households consuming between 100 to 200 units of electricity. This initiative, launched by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, aims to provide affordable energy solutions to low-income families and reduce their dependency on the national grid.
The Punjab Information Minister, Uzma Bukhari, announced that this initiative will distribute 100,000 solar panels across the province, with an investment of Rs. 10 billion.
Under this program, households consuming up to 100 units of electricity will receive a 550-watt solar system, while those using between 101 and 200 units will be provided with a 1,100-watt solar panel system.

To apply for this free solar system, eligible individuals must follow a simple registration process. Interested applicants can register by sending their identification number (CNIC) to the number 8800. In addition to the solar system program, the Punjab government is also working on solarizing tube wells. A plan is in place to convert 8,000 tube wells to solar power, further contributing to the province’s renewable energy initiatives.
