The highly anticipated cricket match between Pakistan and India in the Asia Cup faces the threat of being disrupted by rain. Despite having a reserved day for the game, the weather in Colombo, Sri Lanka, remains uncertain, with heavy showers predicted later in the day.
Rain has been falling steadily in Colombo since early morning, with ominous clouds covering the city. The weather department has issued warnings of heavy rainfall after 4pm.
On the previous day, rain interrupted the Super Four clash between the arch-rivals. India, batting first, had reached 147-2 in 24.1 overs when heavy rain forced the suspension of play. The match officials waited for nearly four hours before deciding to continue the match on the reserved day.
The match between these cricket heavyweights had previously been abandoned due to rain during a group match on September 2 in Pallekele.
During Sunday’s play, India’s openers, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, put up an impressive performance against Pakistan’s pace attack. Gill, in particular, was aggressive and took on Pakistan’s left-arm speedster, Shaheen Afridi.
However, spinner Shadab Khan’s breakthrough and Afridi’s return to form brought Pakistan back into the contest before rain halted the game. KL Rahul and Virat Kohli were at the crease for India, looking to stabilize the innings before the interruption caused by rain.
