The first ever international flight from Dubai touched down at Skardu marking a significant milestone and a historic moment for Pakistan. Flight PK-234 carrying 79 passengers, embarked from Dubai at 4:15 am and safely arrived at Skardu International Airport after a journey of four hours and 30 minutes.
The flight was greeted with a ceremonial water cannon salute upon landing, while passengers were presented with bouquets of flowers, symbolizing the significance of this achievement.
Mohyuddin Ahmed Wani, Chief Secretary of Gilgit-Baltistan, highlighted the historical significance of this development. He emphasized that the introduction of international flights to Skardu would unleash new travel possibilities, fostering ties between the local area and the global community. Mohyuddin Wani underlined that this progressive step, would greatly boost tourism and strengthen the region’s overall connectivity on a broader scale.
Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, expressed his joy over the inaugural international flight, coinciding with Pakistan’s 76th Independence Day. He urged travelers to capture and share the captivating beauty of Pakistan through visual storytelling.
Ambassador Tirmizi applauded the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Gilgit-Baltistan administration for their contributions to making this historic flight a reality. He remarked that this endeavor is a pivotal stride toward promoting tourism and fortifying international linkages, offering the world access to Pakistan’s stunning landscapes and iconic Shangrila.
