President Asif Ali Zardari has awarded the American-Pakistani philanthropist Tanweer Ahmed with Pakistan’s second highest civilian award, “Hilal-e-Imtiaz,” and the “Pride of Pakistan” title. Tanweer Ahmed, based in the US, was recognized for his contributions to Pakistan’s development and for strengthening Pakistan’s relations with the United States.
Tanweer Ahmed has made significant donations to support education, healthcare, and social causes in Pakistan. He donated $9 million to NUST for IT development, contributed Rs75 million for flood victims, and established a free dialysis center in Sialkot.
The ceremony took place at Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad and was attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, COAS General Asim Munir, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, and other officials.
COAS General Munir had previously praised Tanweer Ahmed for his generous donation to NUST and his contributions during natural disasters in Pakistan. Ahmed was also recently awarded an honorary doctorate degree by Indus University for his services to the IT and health sectors in Pakistan.
Expressing his gratitude, Tanweer Ahmed said, “I am honored to receive Pakistan’s second highest civilian award. I will continue to work towards strengthening the relationship between the US and Pakistan and improving cultural ties between the two countries. Both Pakistan, where I was born and studied, and the US, where I have been able to do business and help others, are very dear to me.”
