Zulqarnain Haider, the Pakistani wicketkeeper batsman, has expressed his strong desire to participate in the upcoming ICC Men’s World Cup in India and make a significant contribution to his team’s success. In an interview, Haider shared his goal of ending his cricketing career on a high note by playing in a World Cup and bringing glory to his country.
Haider said, “No matter what, my ultimate dream is to play in at least one World Cup. I will work hard towards that goal, and with the blessings of Allah, I will help my team win the tournament. After that, I will bid farewell to cricket.”
When asked about the competition with Mohammad Rizwan, Pakistan’s first-choice wicketkeeper batsman who has been performing exceptionally well and currently holds the second position in T20Is, Haider acknowledged that opportunities can arise for anyone. He emphasized that the selection of wicketkeepers in the national team is based on performance. Haider cited previous instances where Rizwan was dropped from the team due to underperformance in a World Cup, and other wicketkeepers were given opportunities based on their strong performances in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). However, he also acknowledged the pressure of international cricket and stated that the best-performing wicketkeeper domestically should rightfully earn the chance to represent the country.
Haider also provided an update on his fitness. He underwent surgery for a severe abdominal infection, which not only affected his health but also had financial implications.
Previously, Zulqarnain Haider had represented Pakistan in eight international matches between 2007 and 2010. He created controversy by abruptly leaving the national team during the Dubai tour, leading to an abrupt end to his short cricketing career.
