India has introduced its first international cruise ship, the MV Empress, which embarked on its journey from Chennai to Sri Lanka. The ship, carrying 750 passengers, will visit three ports in Sri Lanka during its five-day cruise.
Sarbananda Sonowal, the union minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Ayush, expressed that India’s coastal region holds immense potential for cruise tourism due to its rich heritage and culture. He emphasized that the launch of this cruise ship provides affordable and convenient access to world-class cruise services, offering passengers the opportunity to enjoy luxurious facilities, entertainment, and breathtaking views.
The MV Empress will visit the ports of Hambantota, Trincomalee, and Kankesanturei in Sri Lanka before returning to Chennai. Various tour packages are available, ranging from two to five nights, with prices starting at ₹86,383 for three nights, accommodating two persons.
