At the Fall 2024 Paris Fashion Week, Coperni wowed everyone by unveiling a one-of-a-kind handbag made mostly of air. This unique bag, called the Air Swipe bag, was a result of a special collaboration with NASA.
The Air Swipe bag is crafted from a material called silica aerogel, which is super light and often used by NASA. It’s made up of 99% air and only 1% glass, making it incredibly lightweight—just as light as a standard lightbulb. Even though it’s delicate, the bag is surprisingly durable and can withstand extreme conditions like high heat and pressure.
Designers Sébastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant teamed up with a visual artist and a researcher specializing in silica aerogel to bring this extraordinary accessory to life. It took them 15 tries to get the design just right.
While the bag resembles Coperni’s iconic Swipe bag, some fans wondered if it could actually carry anything. Coperni reassured everyone that it’s capable of holding an iPhone.
This isn’t the first time Coperni has made waves with its innovative creations. In the past, they’ve showcased dresses painted onto models and even featured robo-dogs in their runway shows. This season, they’re all about pushing boundaries with futuristic and otherworldly designs.
