PTCL shared an update on the AAE-1 submarine cable issue, stating that internet speed has improved with the addition of extra bandwidth. However, PTCL warned that users may still face slower speeds on Meta-related apps like WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram during peak hours.
PTCL assured that a full resolution is on the way, with both PTCL and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) actively working to fix the issue. Last week, PTA confirmed the disruptions were caused by a fault in the AAE-1 submarine cable near Qatar, a key undersea connection for Pakistan’s international internet traffic.
To address the problem, PTA temporarily added extra bandwidth to the system and is now rerouting an additional 200 gigabytes per second of traffic. Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja also announced that 630 gigabytes per second of affected traffic has already been redirected to ensure smoother connectivity.
Despite these measures, the internet slowdown continues to be a challenge, especially for freelancers and users relying on stable internet for work. Many people have raised concerns about the impact of these disruptions, prompting discussions among lawmakers and the public.
PTCL and PTA remain committed to resolving the issue completely in the coming days to restore normal internet services across the country. The situation highlights the importance of robust infrastructure to avoid such disruptions in the future.
