The Chairman PTA, Major General (retd) Hafeez ur Rehman, highlighted the importance of VPNs for businesses. Speaking to the Senate Standing Committee on Information Technology, he acknowledged that many industries, freelancers, and IT professionals rely heavily on VPNs for their operations.
To address concerns about unauthorized VPN usage, the PTA has extended the registration deadline to November 30. This extension aims to give users enough time to comply with the rules and avoid any service disruptions. Rehman encouraged companies and individuals using VPNs to ensure proper registration to avoid issues in the future.
He shared that 25,000 VPNs have been registered so far, showing progress in the process. Additionally, the PTA has blocked over 500,000 obscene websites as part of its efforts to maintain secure and responsible internet usage.
The PTA is also taking steps to prevent the use of illegal encrypted networks that could pose security risks. Rehman emphasized that VPNs are essential for providing safe and reliable internet access while ensuring compliance with national security regulations.
The PTA’s initiative underlines the need for secure digital practices and cooperation between businesses and regulatory bodies. This approach will help balance the need for internet freedom with national security requirements.
