Following the destructive floods that caused approximately $30 billion in damages, monsoon rains have returned to Pakistan, resulting in over 80 deaths so far. Unfortunately, the heavy rainfall and subsequent flooding continue to affect the country.
It has been nearly a year since the establishment of the “Global Shield” fund during the 27th Conference of the Parties (COP27) to address climate-related risks. However, it is yet to be announced whether Pakistan has received any funds from this initiative or how much assistance they have received, if any.
While Pakistan continues to face the consequences of climate change, including the ongoing monsoon rains and their devastating impacts, the affected individuals are still awaiting justice and subsidies. The victims of the floods and subsequent events require support in terms of financial aid, resources, and assistance to help them rebuild their lives and communities.
The delay in disbursing funds and providing relief measures prolongs the suffering of those affected by the climate-related disasters. It highlights the urgent need for prompt action and effective implementation of global initiatives aimed at mitigating the effects of climate change and providing support to vulnerable nations.
Addressing climate change and its consequences requires a comprehensive approach that includes not only immediate disaster response but also long-term measures to enhance resilience, adaptability, and sustainable development.
