Important people like Maryam Nawaz Sharif from PML-N and rights activist Jibran Nasir are supporting A-Levels students who are upset about getting lower grades in the 2023 exams by Cambridge International Education (CIE). The students are also worried about the unfair rescheduling of their exams due to political issues in the country.
The students say that exams were canceled because of protests on May 9, 10, 11, and 12. They feel they weren’t given proper options to take the exams later. The protests happened when former prime minister Imran Khan was arrested on May 9, causing chaos and stopping education in many parts of the country.
Cambridge International Education announced AS and A-Level results on August 10, with IGCSE and O-Level results coming the next week.
Students had choices like canceling their exams in May and June and taking them in October and November, or getting a grade based on special consideration. Another option was to take one of the two canceled exams, and the grade would be based on that.
But not all students could do this.Maryam Nawaz Sharif supported the students and asked CIE to recheck the grades for 2023 exams. Many students are unhappy with their grades, saying they got lower marks than expected. Maryam said this year’s grading seemed unfair for Pakistani students, causing worry and unrest. She pointed out that students who thought they would get higher grades got lower ones, affecting their chances for university and careers.
Maryam thinks CIE should look at their grading system this year to be fair. She also mentioned how students faced tough situations during the exams because of political issues that made things unsafe. She praised the students for staying strong and focused through these challenges.Malik Shehroze Iftikhar mentioned that the higher standards in most subjects made it hard for many students to get the grades they wanted.
