The prices of solar batteries in Pakistan have dropped significantly, marking a major relief for consumers transitioning to renewable energy. Lithium battery prices, which previously stood at Rs. 400,000, have fallen to Rs. 380,000. Similarly, tubular batteries have seen a notable reduction, now priced at Rs. 55,000 compared to their earlier cost of Rs. 70,000.
This decline comes on the heels of a sharp drop in solar panel prices, with the cost per watt now at a historic low of Rs. 28. Experts predict further reductions in the coming months as inflation stabilizes and demand for renewable energy solutions grows.
Federal Minister Owais Laghari recently highlighted that Pakistan imported 8,000 megawatts of solar panels in a single year. This figure accounts for nearly a third of the electricity produced by the world-renowned Three Gorges Dam in China.
The surge in imports has spurred interest from companies looking to establish solar inverter manufacturing plants locally, a move that could save foreign exchange and further drive down costs.
As the renewable energy market expands, more households and businesses are expected to benefit from affordable solar solutions. The current trend reflects a shift toward sustainability, offering hope for a future where energy is both accessible and cost-effective.
