Nepal achieved a remarkable cricket feat at the Asian Games, setting a new record in T20 international cricket. In their match against Mongolia, Nepal, after choosing to bat first, scored a massive total of 314-3 in their 20 overs. This surpassed the previous record of 278-3 set by Afghanistan against Ireland in 2019.
A standout performance came from teenager Kushal Malla, who batted at number three. He crafted the fastest T20 international century ever, achieving this milestone in just 34 balls.
This impressive innings broke the previous record held jointly by South Africa’s David Miller, India’s Rohit Sharma, and the Czech Republic’s Sudesh Wickramasekara, who all achieved it in 35 balls.
Kushal Malla, a left-hander who made his debut for Nepal at the age of 15, concluded his innings with an unbeaten 137 runs off only 50 balls. This century marked his first in T20 international cricket, and he hammered an impressive 12 sixes and eight fours.
Another extraordinary display came from Dipendra Singh Airee, who finished the innings in a jaw-dropping manner against Mongolia’s bowlers. He smashed an unbelievable eight sixes in an unbeaten 52 off just 10 balls.
The 23-year-old reached his fifty in only nine balls, setting yet another T20 world record. This record is likely to remain unmatched as it is mathematically impossible to reach the fifty any quicker.
This incredible performance surpassed the previous record of 12 balls set by India’s Yuvraj Singh against England in 2007, when he hit six sixes off the final over bowled by Stuart Broad.
