As part of its PKR 2 billion investment in renewable energy in Pakistan, Nestlé has officially inaugurated a 2.6-megawatt solar power plant at its Sheikhupura Factory, near Lahore. The plant was inaugurated by Nestlé Pakistan’s senior leadership, including CEO Jason Avanceña and Regional Manager Zone AoA Angelo Giardini. The completion of this solar power project, funded with an investment of PKR 500 million, is expected to result in an annual reduction of 1,857 tCO2e of greenhouse gas emissions.
Earlier last month, the company inaugurated as similar 2.5 megawatt solar power plant at its Kabirwala Factory, near Multan as well. These initiatives aligns with Nestlé Pakistan’s broader commitment to invest in renewable energy, encompassing two biomass boilers and additional solar power plants across its manufacturing sites in the country, totaling a PKR 2 billion investment. Nestlé’s focus on reducing greenhouse gas emissions is in harmony with its 2050 Net Zero commitments and supports the UN climate change pledge made by the Pakistan government. The inauguration coincides with Nestlé’s 35th anniversary of operations in Pakistan, reinforcing the company’s dedication to being a positive influence throughout its value chain.
Nestlé aims to contribute to the country’s future by increasing investments in renewable energy and sustainability initiatives. This solar power plant inauguration is a key component of Nestlé’s comprehensive renewable energy strategy, complementing upcoming plans to introduce biomass boilers and similar solar facilities. In line with UN Sustainable Development Goals 13 and 15, Nestlé has declared its commitment to a 20% reduction in emissions (compared to a 2018 baseline) by 2025, a 50% reduction by 2030, and achieving Net Zero by 2050.
