Starting January 5, 2025, the National Highway Authority (NHA) will implement new toll tax rates on national highways and motorways across Pakistan. The revised rates aim to generate additional revenue for maintenance and upgrades of the country’s road network.
For the M-1 motorway between Islamabad and Peshawar, car tolls will increase to Rs500, while larger vehicles such as buses and trucks will see higher adjustments. Similarly, the M-3 motorway from Lahore to Abdul Hakeem will now charge cars Rs700, with proportional increases for vans, buses, and articulated trucks.
The M-5 motorway from Multan to Sukkur will see the toll for cars rise to Rs1,100, while the Dera Ismail Khan to Hakkla M-14 motorway will charge Rs600 for cars. For national highways, cars will pay Rs60, with varying rates for larger vehicles like wagons, buses, and trucks.
Notable changes also include increased tolls at key points like the Kohat Tunnel and the Islamabad-Murree Expressway. For example, cars will now pay Rs150 at both locations, with heavier vehicles incurring higher charges.
The adjustments reflect a broader effort to sustain infrastructure development in the face of rising costs. While the increases have drawn mixed reactions from commuters, the NHA maintains that the additional funds will ensure smoother and safer travel experiences.
Travelers are advised to review the updated toll rates before planning their journeys to avoid any inconvenience. The revised rates highlight the government’s commitment to improving the country’s road systems for future needs.
