Noida, India is set to launch pod taxis as a public transport system. It will connect the upcoming Jewar Airport with nearby business and entertainment centers along the Yamuna Expressway. The Uttar Pradesh government has approved the plans. They are in the process of preparing to issue global tenders to select a firm that will be responsible for constructing India’s first personal rapid transit (PRT) project. With an estimated cost of Rs 640 crore, the 14.6 kilometer corridor will become the world’s longest PRT route.
The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has prepared a detailed project report for the PRT system. During a meeting with the bid evaluation committee in Lucknow, CEO Arun Vir Singh confirmed the state government’s approval of the pod taxi project. Global tenders are expected to be issued within a week, and a concessionaire will be selected within two months.
The introduction of pod taxis as a public transport solution marks an innovative step for India. This project will revolutionize commuting between the Jewar airport and key centers along the Yamuna Expressway. Moreover, It will also boost tourism and enhance the region’s industrial sector.
