Despite a recent tragedy where all five passengers on the ill-fated Titan submersible expedition to the Titanic shipwreck lost their lives, OceanGate, the company organizing the expedition, is still advertising future trips to explore the Titanic ruins on its website.
According to their website, OceanGate plans to conduct two expeditions to the Titanic in 2024, scheduled for June 12-20 and June 21-29. The cost per person for each expedition is set at $250,000. They also mention that a mission for 2023 is currently underway.
For the price of $250,000, participants can expect a submersible dive, private accommodations, necessary training, expedition gear, and all meals during the journey. Each dive is limited to a maximum of six people, and participants must be at least 17 years old.
Accommodation options include stateroom bedrooms and shared bathrooms, with Wi-Fi connectivity available on the submersible. The website showcases pictures and videos from previous expeditions and features testimonials from past participants.
The expedition is described as an “8-day expedition to dive on the iconic wreck,” departing from the Atlantic coast of Canada. The Titanic wreck is located 380 miles offshore and lies 3,800 meters below the surface.
OceanGate emphasizes that the dive offers an exciting and unique travel experience while also contributing to scientific research and understanding of the wreck and the deep ocean environment. Each dive has a scientific objective aimed at supporting ongoing research efforts.
