The University of Oxford has teamed up with the government of Balochistan to offer STEM scholarships to deserving students from the region. This partnership was officially announced at a ceremony attended by Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti and Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai.
The scholarships are part of the Benazir Scholarship Programme, aimed at helping students from Balochistan pursue graduate studies.
The initiative is supported by the Oxford Pakistan Programme (OPP) and various benefactors. Its goal is to empower the youth of Balochistan by providing them with access to high-quality education. This opportunity will enable students to study science, technology, engineering, and mathematics at one of the world’s leading universities, potentially transforming their futures.
Philanthropist Sarwar Khawaja made a significant contribution to the scholarship fund by donating £100,000. This generous donation helped kickstart the endowment fund, ensuring that the program can begin offering scholarships to students.
At the ceremony, both CM Bugti and Malala Yousafzai praised the initiative. They emphasized how it has the potential to change the lives of young people in Balochistan and contribute to the development of the region.
