Pakistan has submitted an application to join the BRICS group in 2024, according to the country’s new Ambassador to Russia, Muhammad Khalid Jamali. When questioned about Pakistan’s bid for BRICS membership, Ambassador Jamali confirmed the application, stating that Islamabad aims to become a member during Russia’s presidency in 2024.
Ambassador Jamali expressed Pakistan’s interest in being part of this significant organization and mentioned that they are in the process of reaching out to member countries to garner support for Pakistan’s membership.
In October, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov had mentioned that BRICS intends to finalize a list of candidates for partner-state status ahead of the upcoming summit in Kazan in 2024. He highlighted that during Russia’s BRICS chairmanship, there will be a focus on expanding the “circle of BRICS friends,” including countries in Latin America.
It’s worth noting that during the BRICS Summit held in South Africa in August of the same year, invitations were extended to countries like Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Argentina, Iran, and Ethiopia to join this cooperative mechanism.
