The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) may choose not to participate in the Asia Cup, which is scheduled to be held in September this year.
According to reports, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan are not in favor of the hybrid model proposed by the PCB, who are the hosts for the Asia Cup. This leaves Pakistan with two options: either play the event at a neutral venue or withdraw from the tournament.
A source familiar with the matter mentioned that it is expected for the Asian Cricket Council executive board members to meet virtually or hold a proper meeting later this month to discuss the situation.
However, it has been made clear that Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan are not supportive of the PCB’s hybrid model proposal for the Asia Cup.
It is worth noting that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has declined to send their team to Pakistan for the Asia Cup and prefers the event to be held at a neutral venue. On the other hand, the PCB is reluctant to host the event outside of Pakistan as it would affect their efforts to bring international cricket back to the country.
The BCCI is also unlikely to accept the PCB’s hybrid model, which suggests playing four group stage matches in Pakistan and the remaining matches at a neutral venue.
