Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has sent its first 40-tonne shipment of relief goods to Malaysia to assist those affected by devastating floods. Over 122,000 people have been displaced by continuous heavy rains, prompting Pakistan to extend its support to the flood-hit nation.
The departure ceremony for the relief consignment took place at Islamabad International Airport, attended by Federal Minister for Housing and Works Riaz Hussain Pirzada, representatives from the Malaysian embassy, and NDMA officials. The relief package includes vital supplies such as tents, blankets, quilts, sleeping bags, mats, and life jackets to aid the displaced and those in need.
Minister Pirzada expressed his deep condolences for the lives lost in the floods and reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to standing by Malaysia in this challenging time. To further strengthen this support, a second shipment of equal size is planned for dispatch next week, highlighting Pakistan’s dedication to its friendly ties with Malaysia.
This humanitarian gesture comes as both nations work to deepen their economic relationship. Recently, the Malaysian High Commission organized a meeting with Pakistani business leaders, aimed at fostering stronger trade and investment ties between the two countries.
Pakistan’s aid initiative not only reflects its solidarity with Malaysia but also underscores its broader commitment to regional cooperation and mutual support during times of crisis.
