Lahore and Rawalpindi are set to introduce their first-ever high-speed rail service. According to local media reports, a proposal has been submitted to the Punjab Chief Minister for approval. The project is estimated to cost over Rs400 billion and aims to significantly improve travel between the two cities.
The planned rail service will allow trains to reach speeds of up to 250 km/h, reducing the travel time between Lahore and Rawalpindi to less than two hours. This will not only make commuting faster but also more convenient for travelers.
The proposal is supported by an action plan and a pre-feasibility study conducted by the railway department. Funding for the project is expected to come from the Department of Planning and Development. However, one of the key challenges is securing the necessary initial investment. Despite this, if the project gets approved, it would represent a major leap in modernizing Pakistan’s transportation infrastructure, making travel quicker and more efficient.
