Pakistan achieved a historic run chase against Sri Lanka, successfully reaching a target of 345 runs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
Both Mohammad Rizwan and Abdullah Shafique scored centuries, earning praise from former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar.
Gavaskar emphasized that their performance is a positive sign for Pakistan as it reduces their reliance on Babar Azam, who had two disappointing outings in the tournament.
“When you’re chasing 350 runs, it’s a significant challenge. They also faced early wicket losses in the game. More than anything else, we’ve known about what Rizwan can do, but Abdullah Shafique performed like a seasoned batter. The way he anchored the innings alongside Rizwan was impressive,” Gavaskar remarked.
