The recently released World Internet Development Report 2023 reveals that Pakistan holds the 45th position out of 52 countries in the world internet development index, scoring 41.82. This report, launched at the 2023 World Internet Conference, evaluates countries based on six key metrics that shape internet development globally.
These metrics include information technology infrastructure, digital technology and innovation capability, digital economy, digital government, cyber security, and cyberspace international management.
In each of these categories, Pakistan secured the following rankings: 47th in information technology infrastructure, 43rd in digital technology and innovation capability, 42nd in digital economy, 45th in digital government, 45th in cyber security, and 40th in cyberspace international management. This marks the first time that Pakistan has been included in this evaluation alongside four other countries.
The top performers in the world internet development index, according to the report, are the United States, China, Singapore, the Netherlands, and South Korea.
Compiled annually since 2017 by the Chinese Academy of Cyberspace Studies (CACS), the World Internet Development Report aims to assess major trends in global internet development, providing insights into achievements and challenges for further advancement. This comprehensive evaluation serves as a valuable resource for understanding the evolving landscape of internet development on a global scale.
