Dr. Umar Saif, who is currently the Caretaker Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunications, has revealed the government’s plans to set up 5,000 shared e-working centers to support freelancers in Pakistan. They are also working on attracting international investors for a venture capital initiative aimed at assisting startups.
Dr. Saif mentioned his upcoming trip to Saudi Arabia as part of these efforts to engage international investors in these projects. He emphasized that the government is committed to offering interest-free loans to help establish these e-working centers, which is expected to create many job opportunities in the country.
Furthermore, Dr. Saif discussed a five-point plan for the IT sector during a conversation with Caretaker Finance Minister Dr. Shamshad Akhtar. This plan includes actions to keep foreign currency within the IT industry, potentially bringing overseas IT funds back to Pakistan. It also aims to boost investor confidence and increase foreign currency inflows, ultimately leading to higher IT exports.
