The ICC has announced the prize money for the World Test Championship 2021-23 cycle, totaling $3.8 million, to be distributed among the nine participating teams.
The highly anticipated final match of the World Test Championship between Australia and India is set to begin on June 7 at The Oval in London. Apart from the prestigious WTC mace, the winning team will also be rewarded with a significant cash prize.
The champion of the ICC World Test Championship 2023 Final will receive $1.6 million as the grand reward, while the runner-up will be awarded $800,000. The total prize money for the tournament remains the same as the previous cycle, amounting to $3.8 million.
In 2021, New Zealand, led by Kane Williamson, secured a thrilling eight-wicket victory over India in a rain-affected final match held in Southampton. They were rewarded with $1.6 million for their triumph.
All nine participating teams will receive a share of the $3.8 million prize purse. South Africa, who finished in third place in the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 standings, will earn $450,000. England, who made a late surge and secured the fourth position, will receive $350,000.
Sri Lanka, despite being strong contenders for a spot in the final during the intense competition, finished in fifth place and will be awarded $200,000.
