The Pakistan Airport Authority (PAA) is taking steps to improve aviation training by repurposing defunct aircraft at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport. Recently, preparations were completed to relocate a second decommissioned MD-83 aircraft, weighing 60 tons, to the Aviation Training Institute in Hyderabad. The transfer is scheduled to take place on Monday night.
The aircraft will be transported using advanced German-technology trailers, ensuring safety and precision. The journey will follow the National Highway and the Gharo-Thatta route. This follows the successful relocation of another plane earlier this year, which was transported to Hyderabad via the Super Highway.
Authorities have granted the necessary No-Objection Certificate (NOC) for the project, highlighting its significance. According to Project Director Munir Alam, all arrangements are in place for a smooth and efficient transfer. This initiative is part of the PAA’s efforts to make better use of available resources and enhance practical training facilities for aviation professionals in Pakistan. By using defunct aircraft for educational purposes, the project aims to equip future aviation experts with hands-on experience in a realistic setting.
