Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that the federal government will cover all travel expenses for Pakistani students who are stranded in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, following a series of violent incidents.
The violence began on May 13 after a fight broke out between locals and Egyptian nationals, resulting in at least five Pakistani students getting injured. This situation has caused great concern among the Pakistani community and their families.
Pakistan’s embassy in Bishkek has clarified that there have been no fatalities among the Pakistani students, contrary to some reports. Hasan Zaigham, the Pakistani envoy, confirmed that one of the injured students, Shahzaib, is now out of danger and recovering.
In a statement released on Saturday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his deep concern over the attacks on foreign students in Bishkek. He emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of Pakistani students studying abroad.
To provide immediate assistance, PM Shehbaz has directed Federal Minister for Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan Affairs, Amir Muqam, to travel to Kyrgyzstan. Minister Muqam’s mission will be to assist the stranded Pakistani students and ensure their safe return home.
The Prime Minister’s intervention reflects the government’s commitment to protecting its citizens, especially students pursuing education abroad. This support includes covering all travel expenses for the students to return to Pakistan safely.
The recent violence in Bishkek has highlighted the vulnerabilities faced by foreign students in unstable situations. PM Shehbaz’s swift action aims to alleviate the fears and anxieties of both the students in Kyrgyzstan and their families back home in Pakistan.
