Abdul Sattar Edhi was born in Bantva, Gujarat, in 1928, and he witnessed poverty and suffering at a young age, which deeply touched his heart and ignited his compassion. After migrating to Karachi, Pakistan, following the partition of India in 1947, he began his mission to alleviate human suffering. What started as a small dispensary in Karachi eventually grew into the Edhi Foundation, an extraordinary organization that provides various social services such as medical care, rehabilitation centers, orphanages, morgues, and burial services. Edhi’s vision went beyond borders, offering assistance to anyone in need, regardless of their background.
His relentless dedication inspired others to join his cause, leading to the expansion of the foundation’s services across Pakistan. Despite facing challenges, Edhi’s unwavering determination kept him going. His incredible work gained international recognition, and he received numerous awards and accolades, including the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Public Service, the Lenin Peace Prize, and the Gandhi Peace Award.
