Renowned journalist and academic, Professor Shahida Kazi, passed away at Civil Hospital, leaving behind a legacy of remarkable achievements in Pakistan’s journalism world. She was the first female print media reporter, the pioneer female news producer, and news editor at Pakistan Television. Additionally, she was the first female student to earn a master’s degree in journalism from the University of Karachi in 1965, breaking new ground in the field.
Born in 1944 into the family of Allama Kazi II, a distinguished scholar, she came from a village near Dadu in Sindh. She received her early education from St. Lawrence Convent School and graduated from St. Joseph’s College in 1963. Supported by her family, she became the first female journalism student at the University of Karachi, marking the beginning of her remarkable career.
Professor Shahida Kazi’s professional journey included working as a journalist, news producer, and senior news editor at Pakistan Television Corporation for two decades. Her dedication to journalism led her to strongly emphasize the importance of the press in reporting, favoring it over broadcasting channels. She made significant contributions to the field and will be remembered for her pioneering role in Pakistani journalism.
