Gwadar International Airport, the largest airport in Pakistan, officially opened its doors on Monday. This marks an important milestone in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project. The airport, which cost $230 million to build, was funded and constructed by China. It is located in Balochistan and has the capacity to accommodate 400,000 passengers every year.
The opening ceremony included the arrival of a Pakistan International Airlines flight from Karachi. The event was attended by Pakistan’s Defense Minister, Khawaja Mohammad Asif, along with Chinese officials, highlighting the strong collaboration between the two nations.
Earlier this year, the airport was virtually inaugurated in a ceremony led by Chinese Premier Li Qiang and former Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
This new airport is expected to significantly enhance economic activity and improve connectivity in the region, making Gwadar a more accessible and attractive hub for trade and investment. It also reflects the growing partnership between Pakistan and China under the CPEC initiative.
