Arriving and departing residents at Dubai International Airport’s Terminal 3 can now breeze through passport control in mere seconds thanks to the upgraded smart gates featuring cutting-edge facial recognition technology.
A spokesperson from the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai (GDRFA-Dubai) unveiled that there are now five state-of-the-art smart gates at DXB Terminal 3 that allow passengers to seamlessly navigate the immigration process by utilizing their optical and facial profiles. This development was announced during Gitex Global.
Although most of the contactless smart gates at Dubai’s airport terminals still require the scanning of passports for arriving and departing passengers, these new gates represent a significant leap in efficiency.
How to Utilize the Innovative Smart Gates
For residents to take advantage of these new smart gates, here’s a step-by-step guide:
- Register: If you’re a Dubai resident, you’ll need to register at DXB Terminal 3 using your passport or Emirates ID to access the enhanced smart gates.
- Swift and Effortless: The process is remarkably quick and easy. Passengers simply walk through the smart gate while gazing at the glowing green light on the camera.
- No Document Scanning: There’s no requirement to present any form of identification. Just make sure your face is clearly visible by removing items like glasses, face masks, or hats. This ensures the camera can accurately scan your facial and optical profile.
- Keep Documents Ready: While you typically won’t need them, it’s advisable to keep your passport or boarding pass on hand just in case they are requested. This serves as a backup for added convenience.
