According to reports from local sources, former Australian cricket player Shane Watson is showing some reluctance to commit to a full-year coaching role in Pakistan. This has led to discussions within the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) about potentially hiring a separate coach specifically for Test matches.
Reportedly, the PCB has offered Watson an annual salary of $2 million, which could make him the highest-paid coach in Pakistan cricket history if he agrees to the terms.
Watson is said to be seriously considering the offer and may accept the position once the PCB officially approaches him.
Under the guidance of Mohsin Naqvi, the PCB is working on forming a strong coaching team for the national cricket team.
To ensure that they have coverage for the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand in Pakistan, starting on April 18, the PCB is looking into options for local coaches and foreign advisors in case Watson’s contract isn’t finalized in time.
It’s worth noting that Mickey Arthur, Grant Bradburn, and Andrew Puttick, who were reassigned to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore in November 2023, stepped down from their roles in January this year.
