Inzamam-ul-Haq’s dual role in Pakistan cricket, serving as the Chairman of the Junior Men’s Cricket Selection Committee while simultaneously leading the senior selection committee, has raised several noteworthy concerns.
Firstly, his reported contract, which entails a substantial financial obligation in the event of premature termination, has sparked controversy. If the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decides to part ways with Inzamam before his contract’s completion, they would be obligated to pay him a considerable sum of PKR 15 million, equivalent to six months’ worth of salary at PKR 2.5 million per month. This arrangement reflects an unusual and expensive commitment, contrary to standard PCB policy.
Additionally, questions surrounding Inzamam’s alleged involvement with a company owned by Talha Rehmani, who serves as his agent and represents other players, have raised concerns about potential conflicts of interest. The PCB management committee has highlighted the need for clarification on this matter.
Furthermore, during a recent meeting, the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the selection process was brought up, with concerns about its role in team selection. Member Kaleem A. Khan inquired whether Inzamam utilized AI, suggesting the provision of AI software and the establishment of a database. Inzamam, however, emphasized the importance of on-field performance and the committee’s comprehensive review of various factors in decision-making, suggesting a traditional approach to selection.
